  • Katsina State Government awards Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama N500,000 for returning N748,320 mistakenly credited to her account.
  • The money was mistakenly deposited into Abdulkadir-Yanmama’s account as part of the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme, despite her not being a registered vendor.
  • Abdulkadir-Yanmama reported the error to the state government, clarifying that she was not part of the program.
  • After verifying her claim through the Auditor-General’s office, the state government rewarded her with N500,000 and offered her participation in the next school feeding programme.

The Katsina State Government has awarded N500,000 to Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama, a woman who returned N748,320 she mistakenly received.

The amount was intended for vendors participating in the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the state.

The reward was presented by Dr. Mudassir Nasir, the Executive Director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency, who commended the woman for her honesty.

According to Nasir, Abdulkadir-Yanmama had received an alert for the payment, which was intended for vendors who provide free meals to primary school students. However, Abdulkadir-Yanmama was not part of the vendor list.

Upon realizing the error, she reported the situation to the state government and presented her bank statement for verification.

“She told us that she received an alert with a narration titled payment for vendors who were providing primary school pupils with free food.

“She decided to come to our office because she was not on the register for vendors who provide food for our pupils and she was not part of such a programme,” Nasir said.

After confirming the authenticity of her claim, the office of the Auditor-General verified her honesty. As a result, Governor Dikko Radda instructed that she be rewarded with N500,000, a commendation letter, and an offer to participate in the upcoming school feeding programme.

“The Governor was pleased with her honesty and encouraged others to follow her example,” Nasir added.
